Tongmu Jin Jun Mei
金骏眉
Smooth and sweet floral honey, lingers on tongue.
Jin Jun Mei is a black tea made from only the buds that was first produced in 2006 in Tongmu by Jiang Yuan Xu. It has quickly become a famous tea due to the unique flavor and gossip inducing prices. The harvest process is indeed extremely labor intensive. My cousin in Masu produces Jin Jun Mei tea and budgets a skilled picker to gather 750g of wet leaf over a 12 hour shift. That wet leaf produces about 150g of finished tea. In other words: an hour’s work in the field produces only enough raw material to make three pouches of this tea.
