Xiao Hong Pao
小红袍
Roast pecans. Smooth soup lingers with a gentile energy in the mouth.
Xiao Hong Pao is a cultivar said to originate from Jiu Long Ke. It has a character said to be similar to Da Hong Pao, and some people say that Xiao Hong Pao is a clone of one of the Da Hong Pao mother trees, but I don't think there is any evidence to support it - and possibly some good evidence contrary. Regardless, it is an interesting cultivar which produces a soup between that of Rou Gui and Shui Xian with a long lasting and pleasant fragrance.
As of November 30th - still taste a bit of charcoal "fire" present in the roast. Re-tasting March 15th, 2026, cleaned up significantly, tea is ready for the shop.
